Jan and Kees were common names for Dutch people, I think Yankees comes from that...

I'm pretty sure he means New York...but I live in York region which was named after the English city...and there's a London in Canada as well...people need to be more creative in naming cities....

But new Yorks was originally called New Amsterdam, and after that it was named after The Duke of York...
