On the specific subject of US states, I've been to Florida, and when I say Florida, I mean Orlando. It was too hot and there was hardly any grass. The buildings on the I-drive road looked awful and nearly everyone I saw was English...

If my family ever goes back it will probably be to New York because of what they saw in Friends or Spiderman or the Tropicana adverts or whatever else...

Which, in an American's opinion, is the best state (city) you have? I always thought Detroit looked pretty cool, but It doesn't have much going for it at the moment, I hear.

Chicago is pretty amazing, Never been to New York or Seattle. Detroit is not looking to great right now but has some pretty kick ass buildings if you're into architecture. Don't go to anywhere in Wyoming, LA I hear was fun (didn't get to go on that trip), Dallas and Addison Texas was a good trip, and the only other place I've been is Minneapolis which is nice and all but driving there is worse than standing in line at the DMV guessing which line is the right one and being lit on fire.

michigan beaches are nice. there are oversized hills to climb, pretty houses, and especially perfect waves for boogie boarding

I know what he's talking about in the oversized hills. I watched a show about the great lakes today, how they were formed, and one of the things were these huge teardrop-shaped hills all pointing north. They were up to a mile in length and like 155 feet tall or something. A glacier made them. But since the Lakes are so huge, and young (Niagra falls theory) then what made them?? A glacier that big had never been seen/heard... ever

Let's discuss History.

Which historical (and non-fictional) leader do you admire the most? I'm talking years ago, before Victorian times.

Either Benjamin Franklin or Guy Fawkes. Benny 'cause he had passion, creativity, and a sense of humor, and Guy because V for Vendetta was awesome and I can only hope to be so passionate about a cause so as to plan the destruction of something as massively institutional as Parliament.

He wasn't as much a leader as a terrorist though. I personally find him one of the worst in a bunch of bad eggs (the catholics, another story for another time) but an opinion is an opinion (unless it's about Hitler. No one is allowed to say Hitler).

I always liked William the conquerer (spelling?) mainly because his Parent's weren't married when he was born, like me, but he still managed to become an incredibly powerful and respected (sort of) guy.

Joan of Arc. Even though she was insane and had weird visions of religious figures, she still fought for France which is really cool. And most women didn't fight in the war. Joan was brave... or maybe just religious they declared her a saint for being crazy

Hitler may have been one I would have mentioned but the pre-Victorian condition disqualifies him. There is no denying Hitler was a great leader, despite being a little misguided.

Bill the Badass is an interesting choice, but I think a good one, as he did march into England and took the place over, which is a pretty badass thing to do.

And as chicks go, Joan of Arc is possibly the baddest of the badasses. Although Catherine the Great did ditch her husband, plot his death, and took over Russia. Kind of like Joan without the overt insanity.

There is no denying Hitler was a great leader, despite being a little misguided.

A little misguided? Oh yeah murdering 100,000 disabled children, that was just a trivial mistake. those 500,000 gypsies he allowed to be executed, an error in judgement perhaps? Whiping out 80% of the Jewish population in Europe and starting a war that ended up taking the lives of millions upon millions of people around the world, that was just the result of a little misguidance.

maybe his parents should have taught him to be a little more empathetic.

He was a great speaker and a smart politician. He knew how to work the system and his people to get what he wanted from them.

It was good that he lowered the general population, though. Otherwise the world would be say too crowded already... but I don't like the fact that it was only certain people.

And you have to admit it takes strong leadership to convince an entire population to commit mass genocide. It didn't happen by accident. Imagine if Hitler focused his talents on something positive? What a different world this would be.

That's a very wise consideration. He may have controlled population growth in a positive way, like with [insert a strategy here].

In that way he failed as a leader. I believe a great leader must not only be able to lead his people, but he must lead them in the right direction, he must have some kind of foresight.

He utterly failed in this area. He led his people to destruction and poverty, much worse then conditions before he became fuhrer.

He has earned the title of great manipulator though.

Americans will almost always tell you that whatever state/city they live in is the best.

We always stick with the best.. that's a motto we live by here in the US of A.
