Re: Discussion thread [Serious]
Worship doesn't need to involve rituals remember. What you are doing could actually be considered worship in a low amount. You believe, you honor, you capitalize the H in him (something I've never understood at all), and you call him the highest being. I would have to call that worship.

Re: Discussion thread [Serious]
I suppose. but would you worship a king or queen (not just by Divine Right) religiously? I would say I plainly consider Maleldil the highest king there could be.

Re: Discussion thread [Serious]
I would not call a king or queen the creator, I would not call them the highest being, and when saying him I wouldn't capitalize the h (someone explain why people do that plz). I would treat them with respect when seeing them yes, I may mind my manners a little more, but other than that, they are just people. The same way I might not like Obama much lately but I'd still treat him like the president if I saw him. I don't believe in Divine Right anyway.

Re: Discussion thread [Serious]
I don't believe in Divine Right either.
and the capitalisation of the H is as a proper noun. by saying Maleldil I am saying a proper noun; respect demands that I capitalise His name in other forms (I guess)
true, my analogy to a ruler is not equal... Maleldil is one and there is literally nothing to compare Him to.

You are saying a proper noun so you capitalize the h? So whenever you would say (write) a pronoun for a person you capitalize the h or s or t?asdfkumquat wrote:I don't believe in Divine Right either.

Re: Discussion thread [Serious]
Him weather capitalized or not is not a proper noun, it's not even really a noun at all, it's a pronoun, and there is no proper pronoun. It is not demanded of respect from anyone else, and Him, not being a name, I don't think has to be capitalized. I would have a hard time following anything that required such strenuous grammatically vain rules. That's just me. I could go on for ever about such things, but I'm just bored, I hope you don't take this offensively, I think it's great actually that you believe and honor something that, so far, to me isn't a tyrant lol!asdfkumquat wrote:I don't believe in Divine Right either.

Re: Discussion thread [Serious]
You capitalize the 'h' out of respect. Generally, when you say 'him' or 'he', you are referring to someone when you either don't know their name or don't care enough to say it. You capitilize the 'h' because you want to stress that you DO care enough, but you don't want to keep repeating his name over and over again.

Re: Discussion thread [Serious]
But what people write in books aren't always how it should be written. I think it makes sense to be capitalised out of respect, but like lunar said, pronouns don't tend to be capitalized. But I've read a book before that changed freely between first, second, and third persons, without warning or reason or anything, so yeh, books aren't much to go by. Capitalize it if it makes you happy, and if you think you should be capitalized. No-one will shoot you for it.

Keja is AK's idol, and they both know it. She's just living in denial.

I trust Clive Staples Lewis on this matter..Flying Sheep wrote:But what people write in books aren't always how it should be written.
