Just talking a bit... Watching you guys argue... Feeding Keja's ego... It's fun...
This might sound a bit cliché, but ASDFing can make a sad face (Ml08180 wrote:well I have a problem, how do I deal with sadness? I've tried everything but I'm still sad

The antoginist being revealed as an estranged family member of the protagonist, usually at a crucial point while the two are in a confrontation, again usually with the protagonist coming off worse at the end.

^this is a common plot device used in many movies, books, TV shows, etc. right now I can only think of Star Wars where Darth Vader reveals to Luke Skywalker that he is actually his father. You can probably find a lot of example in soap operas (daytime television often known to be extremely cliché)keja wrote:The antoginist being revealed as an estranged family member of the protagonist, usually at a crucial point while the two are in a confrontation, again usually with the protagonist coming off worse at the end.

Re: ASDF Help Thread.
there are simpler clichés though.. i just can't think of any but musical ones that are hard to explain..
it's basically a conventional pattern of something, that is used commonly, and can be quite boring for selective people.ForrestKeys wrote:What is a cliché? Is it good food?

So Luke is the good guy and Darth is the bad guy...ThingerDudes wrote:^this is a common plot device used in many movies, books, TV shows, etc. right now I can only think of Star Wars where Darth Vader reveals to Luke Skywalker that he is actually his father. So what keja said was that the bad guy reveals a connection to the good guy which creates a dilemma of some sorts?!...

Yes. Star Wars was probably the first to start the trend, but many fantasy novels written after 1980 have used the cliché.
