Especially when they use words that make me physically recoil.
I've got the same feeling from all sorts of weird lingo too, lol. Though, 'pog' is really only used on Twitch, and I guess YouTube due to crosspollination.

it might not show well through a screen, but I typed 'poggers' ironically. i mean to me making fun of the joke is almost funnier than the actual joke.

My personal favorite use for the word is to say "Child Abuse Pog", "Tax Evasion Pog" or some other variation of "[crime] Pog". Irony tastes great, unfortunately, too much of it does more harm than good for the soul.
pogs were actually originally some kind of round plastic collectible toy thingy I think.
I've heard about this, haha. I remember a joke from The Simpsons (I think?) where someone proclaimed "Pogs are back! In Alf form!" (paraphrased). I think that's kind of funny because 90s nostalgia is thicker than blood.

Chart for the unlearned:
My Goddamn Skull > 90s Nostalgia > Maple Syrup > Blood > Water

I'm currently wondering why, oh why do em—dashes exist?
—-—-—
and if they are so cool and important, why don't I have an "—" key on my keyboard? I only have a normal dash "-".

I hate it when my word processor changes some of my short hyphens into long hyphens, and I have to go back and fix all that so it stays consistent.

If I had to assign them a purpose without knowing what they do [cause I don't], I'd say short hyphens are for compound words, like "Summer-time" or "Hell-blooded" or "Fair-skinned" and et cetera. While long hyphens, would be more like interrupts, such as "She looked at the man—he was shockingly gorgeous—and began to speak".

Though, I guess that's just a personal preference. As long as you remain consistent in your writing, I doubt even an asshole publisher would make you do it differently. Same thing with use of quotations and apostrophes. Some authors use one or the other, or both in different circumstances.

Also, it's kind of weird to me how italics are more acceptable than bolding, underlining or striking through. I mean, most modern novels use italics for thought processes or other miscellaneous things like writing being read and even sometimes narration... but few if any of them use bolding, except in headings, which I'm not counting 'cause that's different from the main text. That's not even to mention strike through, which is so incredibly uncommon that it's a splash of cold water to see in a book, ha ha.

Yeah, that makes sense I guess.

I think those methods are just generally deemed somewhat harder to read, if there is more than a few words in that format at a time. Can be annoying.
Readers can be irked by all sorts of minor things, using a different font, narrow margins, what have you.
I once read a book that had some sections printed in red, while others in green. I really didn't like reading the red parts, my eyes weren't a fan.

I'm currently reading a book named House of Leaves. Well, actually, it's more like I'm ignoring it completely because it's kind of hard to put up with. I guess you could say I went on a hiatus for it, ha ha.

Anyway, the book is renowned for having the weirdest goddamn formatting. Like, ever. That's not even an exaggeration. I won't say too much, 'cause apparently it's a good book [I'm only like 25% done with it, but I am getting really bored, so maybe it's just a slow slow slow burn].

Here's what I will say: There are more footnotes in the book [yes this is a novel, not something that really often has footnotes] than actual pages. No, that's not an exaggeration. I'm on page one hundred something, and the footnotes are at quite a bit more than that.

Another thing; Font changes. Constantly. Well, not really. It has consistency, but I won't say how [might be a tad spoiler-y if I did].

Last example; Some pages are written upside down, in colored boxes, backwards or weighted to be in the middle of the page with massive margins.

It's rather nuts. The book itself tired me out of it, though. Since I'm only so far in, I didn't assume to know everything yet, but I literally don't even know what the message or promises are, yet. That's really annoying, since almost all other books give you those within the first chapter... I am following the story, but oh boy is it not clear what the point to it all is, at least to me.

Maybe it has a stellar ending, but it is most likely going to lose me before that.

Impossible. Books cannot be pointless.

Otherwise, they'd have to have circular pages :sunglassesman:

ooh, the BuzzWordSphere! so synergetic.

(eh, I guess "synergy" is a post-buzzword now, nobody uses it but to illustrate the concept of buzzwords)
