It still affects the word. Without the 'e', it would be pronounced 'Jack'.
it's not the e that's pronounced. I never said it didn't affect the word. the silent e acts, imo, as an accent to a previous vowel. assdef is talking about every vowel on the end being pronounced, but a silent e can't (it's silent)

it's probably because I'm working on a PowerPoint about designer genetics and controversy.

hell to the yes.
'When I first look at this in terms of ethics, I see nothing wrong with changing physical traits for appearance in a child. Things like eye, skin & hair colour aren’t going to determine occupations. Height and body type is going a little farther if the child will, later in life, wish to pursue a career involving sports or some other physical input. This won’t necessarily help to form their opinions on a certain career path, but improving intelligence and specific talent with designer genetics will. I don’t think going into this type of engineering is acceptable – it’s creating a child without its own preferences or acquired talents for the parent’s sake. It’s the same thing with ‘saviour siblings’, kids engineered to donate stem cells, blood and tissue for the sibling. Although they may be loved and accepted by their family, creating a child with a predetermined occupation as a donor and not having any say in the process is unacceptable. Self-aware beings should be able to happen without their main purpose chosen for them. They are humans born only to improve the practical lives of another.'

I'll refer you to
this book, you might find it interesting. I haven't read it, just a lengthy review of it, and i'm pretty much in agreement with what he has to say.

Wow, you're like the first person I've heard say that in like, years. Libraries are awesome.

They're like the internet, except smaller, and all the webpages are actual pages, inside strange devices called books.
