I am glad someone actually listens to me
The ; came from the Outlands of Punctuation... it took over JKL's mind when it was created by ASDF and acted against it... Never before had the Outlanders had contact with the Letters, but they wanted control. So they needed a great power to try and defeat ASDF and the Letters, and JKL was the one who succumbed to their clever trickery.

Interesting that no one ever speaks of '. Technically I think the home row consists of all things ASDF, gh, and JKL;, and '. Everyone forgets the '.
