They aren't misunderstood at all. They call busy people on the telephone and try to sell them shitty goods and awful services. That is a rude thing to do. If they think that they can make a living off doing something they know will annoy and upset a lot of people, they are awful human beings.

Batman is a detective and a vigilante. the bat is his symbol, not his species. Batman is neither Gothic in the sense of the original Germanic Goths of Europe, or the dark haired, fair skinned, painted teens of more modern times.

The most recent episode of Doctor Who has a reptilian, Victorian, lesbian, katana-weilding batman-type character. It's somewhat related to this thread.
